International students appreciate the intimate size of our high school, the inclusive culture, and the excellent teachers and curriculum. This page details information for international students who want to apply to our degree-seeking program. This program is full-time and requires tuition payment. If you are interested in coming to our school through a short-term cultural exchange, please see our Exchange Student Admissions page instead.

International students may come per semester or per year, beginning in 9th grade. If accepted, the student would be responsible for our current tuition rate plus a registration fee, a visa fee, all travel expenses, and any expenses associated with additional programs outside of the normal school day, such as sports, clubs, English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, etc. Upon acceptance, we require proof of international insurance.

We can provide housing with school host families for international students who do not have family in the Denver area. We ask that you pay the host family for the cost of the student’s living expenses, on a sliding scale of $500-$1,000 per month.

All international students are required to obtain an F-1 student visa. The Denver Waldorf School is an approved SEVIS school and is authorized to help facilitate the process of obtaining this once a student has been accepted to our school.

Requirements:

  1. Degree-seeking international students may come for one or more semesters from 9th grade through 12th grade. To achieve the maximum benefit, we prefer that students attend for a minimum of one school year.
  2. The student will need to take the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) exam and score a minimum of 45 to be accepted into our program. Please note our TOEFL ID is 6071.
  3. ESL (English as a Second Language) classes will be required for students who score between a 45 and a 94 on the TOEFL. Additionally, if a student scores above a 94 and is generally exempt from ESL but begins to struggle in a class because of the language barrier, we may strongly recommend this tutoring at that time. ESL is offered before school from 8am – 9am and after school by appointment. The cost is $40 per hour.
  4. The student will need to apply to our high school as an international student and pay a $150 application fee. This application includes student and parent questionnaires, the TOEFL exam score, teacher letters of reference, and an agreement to follow our school’s media policy, dress code, drug and alcohol policies as well as all local laws. If a host family is needed, the student’s parents must also sign a document giving authority to the host parents to act as the parental authority while the student is staying in their home.
  5. Prospective students should also compile a portfolio of academic and artistic work and send this to the Admissions Office, following our portfolio guidelines.
  6. When all relevant paperwork has been received, we will arrange a Skype interview with the student, his/her parents/guardians and our High School Director of Student Services.
  7. The Waldorf education system is an international system with more than 1,000 schools worldwide. We strongly encourage prospective families to research the Waldorf curriculum, as our teaching methods and mission are different than many current American public or private independent schools.

Please Note: Priority will be given to international students and their siblings staying more than one year. Please click on the Apply Now button below to apply; paper applications available by request.
