Literary forms: the novel, poetry, short stories, autobiography, and drama
from Greek to modern times. Our Town, Oedipus the King, Rain of Gold, Midsummer Night’s
Dream, Raisin in the Sun, Sophocles’ plays.
Grammar and Composition: usage, spelling and vocabulary, summaries,
dialogues, character descriptions, outlines, poetry and original stories.
Examples are drawn from a wide selection of multicultural literature.

Algebra: polynomials, factoring, graphing, solution of equations, word
problems, truth tables, simple linear systems; permutations, combinations,
finite probability spaces and their application.
Geometry: continuing Euclidean geometry and the basic principles of
projective geometry with geometrical construction, formal logic and
proofs.
Social Studies
American History: early settlements of the New World, the character of
the 13 colonies, the United States Constitution, the workings of Congress
and the role of the Presidency.
World History: revolutions--the American Revolution, the French
Revolution, the Russian Revolution and the Industrial Revolution.
History Through Art: sculpture and painting from Ancient Egypt to the
Italian Renaissance.
Science
 High School Chorus
Physics: thermodynamics—specific heat and law of heating, latent heat and phase
transformations, thermal conductivity and law of conduction, thermal expansion, and the
workings of practical devices.
Chemistry: organic chemistry—substances derived from the organic activity of plants and other
living organisms, their uses through history, and associated technologies.
Earth Sciences: geology, the evolution and physical structure of the earth, fossils and
sedimentation, earthquakes, volcanism and plate tectonics.
Biology: structures of the human anatomy with some physiology. Study of addiction and
substance abuse.
Additional Subjects
Artistry: black and white drawing, drama, calligraphy, clay, basketry, woodworking, cabinetry and
joinery.
Music: vocal music to include major choral works, folk songs, madrigals, spirituals and contemporary
works. Instrumental music.
Languages: Russian or Spanish.
Eurythmy: artistic movement to lyric poetry, and to major and minor chords in music.
